ARGENTINA – Nationals of OECD Countries Now Visa Exempt for Business

Effective immediately, nationals of member countries of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) can travel to Argentina for business activities for stays of up to 90 days without requiring a business visa.

Who is affected?

The 35 countries that now benefit from visa-free business travel in Argentina are: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.

Background

The Ministry of Interior published Resolution 137/2017 on 28 March 2017 Previously, the policy on business-visa exemptions was unclear as, although Argentina has signed bilateral agreements including business-visa exemptions, the waivers were not enforced in practice. There remains, however, some ambiguity as to what activities are allowed under this visa waiver, and this should be confirmed with an immigration specialist on a case-by-case basis.

Action Items

  • Employers of OECD-national business travellers to Argentina should check with an immigration specialist whether a business visa is required for the proposed activities.
