INDIA – Digital Photograph Required for Registrations & Renewals
The Indian immigration authorities have announced that foreign nationals must submit a digital photograph when scheduling an appointment online for in-country registration or document renewal.
Online Procedure for Registrations and Renewals
Where online applications are required, applicants must upload a recent passport-style colour photograph measuring 3.5 x 4.5 cm or 3.5 x 3.5 cm. The file must be no larger than 50KB and in JPEG format.
Applicants must bring the required number of physical copies of the photograph (depending on the place of application), along with originals of all other supporting documents, to their appointment.
Modernization of the Registration System
Online applications for registration and visa/residence permit renewal are being rolled out to Foreigners Regional Registration Offices (FRRO) and Foreigners Registration Offices (FRO) across India, as part of the modernization of the registration system. At the Delhi FRRO, for example, all such applications must be made online effective 1 August.
It is intended that, eventually, copies of all supporting documents for these processes will be uploaded when an applicant books their appointment, although at present the FRO and FRRO offices are only able to process digital photographs online.
Action Items
- Immigration service providers should obtain a JPEG file of an applicant’s passport photograph in good time to schedule an appointment online for registration or renewal of visas or residence permits.
- Also, check whether the FRRO or FRO where the appointment is to be made has implemented the online booking system.
