COLOMBIA – New Degree Validation Rules Imminent
On 24 October 2017, new rules for foreign nationals who are required to validate their university degrees will come into effect. Until 24 October, while the authorities implement the new rules, foreign nationals cannot access the online system to validate their university degrees.
The new degree validation process will be shorter overall, but the issuance of a preliminary statement that requirements have been met, which is needed before the foreign national can start work, will take several weeks longer than previously.
Furthermore, in addition to the documents already required in support of the degree validation, an academic certificate issued by the university of graduation, apostilled and translated into Spanish will be required.
Action Items
- Foreign nationals with a bachelor’s degree who intend to work in Colombia should begin the process of validation of their degree as soon as possible after 24 October to minimise delays.
