MALAYSIA: Foreign National Workers Reminded to Transfer Passes to New Passports

The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has issued a reminder that a Foreign Knowledge Worker or dependent who holds a valid employment pass or dependent pass and obtains a new passport should urgently complete Transfer of Endorsement (TOE) to the new passport.

However, MDEC highlights three exceptions where TOE is not required if the current pass is expiring within seven days:

  • Renewal of pass – if a new passport is obtained during the pass renewal application;
  • Change of job position;
  • Change of employer – if cancelation procedures have been completed before a new passport is issued.

In addition, MDEC has announced that, effective immediately, Special Pass applications must be paid for by bank draft, rather than cash as previously. A Special Pass can be obtained if a current employment or dependent pass is expiring or a new pass is being processed, and is valid for 30 days.
